Re: attention all base portal users

I'm sorry but this message makes no sense. As Christoph explained, the fact that baseportal is not using an SSL server is NOT A PROBLEM. The only time an SSL connection is necessary is if you are sending your personal information in a form for instance and a hacker could possible grab the unencrypted information in route from your computer to the destination server AFTER you push the "submit" button.

The only way you might run into trouble with baseportal not having an SSL is if you are allowing folks to enter credit card information for storage in your baseportal database. Don't do this.

But to claim that baseportal itself is stealing your personal information is absolutely stupid as well as misrepresentation of baseportal.

my att personal web page adminastrator has just warned me that there is a item with no ssl. which can get my credit card number and personal information like my name and address
and being that base portal dont have ssl.
im feoced to put the balme on base portal
so now i have to format me system and i advise all to do the same. because as base portal faq says. to cancel is to delete your pages abd dataand then change your password. wont work. because you will still have a password to base portal. i have ben investagating base portal. weather or not any one is geting and using any ones personal info is unknown. but the fact is there is no ssl. and i feel that as long as one is using base portal in there web site or page uit is open to attack. bye all.

Re: attention all base portal users - why???

      This is nonsense.

baseportal supports no SSL, thats correct. But why on earth should this "open [your] web site or page to attack" !??

All you do is LINKING from your page to a page at baseportal or include it in a frame, thats what you probably did and why you got the warning message... I explain the meaning of this message later on.

You obviously don't know what SSL is and what it does. SSL encrypts the CONNECTION between the server (where you get the web pages from - from baseportal in this case) and your local computer (your browser). This means: If you don't trust your internet access provider or the internet connections at all, then SSL could help.

But SSL has NOTHING to do with the security of your website or the security of baseportal.

Ok, back to the warning message you got. It says that you load a page that has "insecure" items on it. "Insecure" means: The page was loaded without SSL, which means that potentially somebody sitting between your local computer and the server (baseportal in this case) could have "hijacked" the page and sent you a different content. Apart from the fact that this is highly improbable, this would be possible with every page you load without SSL - and this is nearly EVERY page out there. I guess 99,99% have no SSL. And the reason is: Its not necessary...

The rest of your text is strange and I don't get what exactly you want to say. You mean, just with having an account at baseportal, baseportal would be able to get your personal data?? How in the world could this be possible??

Let me put this straight: It is NOT possible that someone (or someone from baseportal) can get any data from your web page or your local computer. Your website or your local computer is NOT "open to attack" because you use baseportal.

If you know someone who has a higher technical skill about the internet and the web, please ask him to read this message (and take a short look at baseportal if necessary) and what he thinks..... I hope you believe him, then ;-)
